What to Bring

Recommended clothing for both men and women on your Kenya safari:

Be prepared for your trip with our packing suggestions. While accommodations may offer laundry services, they can be affected by weather conditions. If visiting during the rainy season, bring a lightweight waterproof jacket. Include sunglasses, a swimsuit if your lodge has a pool, sturdy walking shoes, and sandals for around the camp. Don’t forget slippers and a safari hat with a chin strap for windy days. Nights in the highlands can be cool, so pack flannel pajamas. For both genders, bring 2 long-sleeve shirts, 4 t-shirts, a sweatshirt, 2 pairs of cotton pants, 2 cargo pants, and 1 pair of comfortable shorts. Three pairs of socks and five sets of undergarments will suffice, as they can be washed and dried overnight. Women should also bring 4 sports bras to accommodate the uneven terrain. If baggage allows, consider taking extra clothing rather than doing laundry.

Toiletries and basic medical kit recommendations for Kenya

It’s wise to put together a personal first aid kit, toiletries, and hygiene products for your journey. Take along anti-malarial medication and antihistamines for insect bites, as well as common pain relievers like Ibuprofen, Aspirin, and indigestion aids. Don’t forget prescription medications, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer, and a toothbrush. Sunscreen with appropriate SPF and insect repellent are essential. Keep some Band-Aids and antiseptic ointment for minor cuts. If you wear contact lenses, make sure to bring your glasses. Store all supplies in a moisture-resistant bag. Accommodations typically provide basic first aid supplies, and bathroom amenities like shampoo and soap may be available, but you can bring your own if you prefer.

Gadgets for Kenya travelers

Capture Kenya’s breathtaking scenery and wildlife by bringing cameras and other recording devices. Be mindful of your luggage weight limit and ensure you have the necessary converters for charging devices; Kenya uses 220 to 240 Volts and 50 Hertz. The standard sockets are of the British type with three rectangular prongs. Carry extra batteries and memory cards, and consider zoom lenses. Bring a flashlight for navigating at night and binoculars for wildlife viewing. To stay connected, pack your smartphone and tablet, as some accommodations offer Wi-Fi. Use your tablet for storage and to document animal sounds. Lastly, pack large protective bags for your equipment to keep them safe from dust and water during activities.
